I believe that every child is a unique learner. Effective teaching requires coming alongside of students, understanding their unique learning attributes, and meeting their individual learning needs.
Tutoring provides the opportunity to take a close look at what a student knows and then builds upon that knowledge. I use a balanced literacy approach with systematic phonics instruction, engaging multi-sensory activities, and my knowledge of learning and the brain to get students back on track and feeling confident.
I use a learning cycle initiated by a specific, measurable, and attainable goal. The goal is determined by parent and teacher observations as well as my own assessment tools. We develop a plan and decide how long we think it will take to reach our goal. At that point, we evaluate growth and determine next steps. I use this learning cycle to keep everyone focused and working together as a team towards our goal.
